GENIP and Travelocity, the most popular travel site on the Web, were co-sponsors of the Travelocity Award for Excellence in Geography Education.
It aimed to celebrate efforts nationally or internationally to promote geography education by recognizing outstanding actions or events to enhance and improve its quality.
Three awards were granted: to Dr Neal Lineback (2004), to Reach for the Stars (2005), and to Dr Joseph Kerski (2006).
The award was discontinued by Travelocity in 2006 due to corporate re-direction of funding opportunities.
GENIP thanks Travelocity for its support of geography education. GENIP hopes to continue to seek external funding to support an award program for outstanding geography educators.
