This user-friendly booklet is an easy tool for interpreting and incorporating geography standards in the classroom and linking the new standards with the five themes of geography. Guidelines for Geographic Education: Elementary and Secondary Schools. 1984. $3.00

This classic landmark 26-page booklet introduces and defines the five themes of geography: location, place, human-environment interaction, movement, and region. The publication provides guidelines organized around these themes which identify both geographic concepts and learning outcomes that should be included in the elementary curriculum. The Guidelines also suggests a sequences of courses for grades 7-12.


K-6 Geography: Themes, Key Ideas, and Learning Opportunities. 1987. $6.00

This 46 pages book details the important concepts, knowledge, skills and attitudes of geographic education at each elementary grade level. Based on the five themes of geography and the suggested learning outcomes outlined in the Guidelines for Geographic Education (1984), K-6 Geography is a useful resource for elementary school teachers, curriculum developers, and geographic educators responsible for programs in geography and the social studies.
